The Educational Impact Award recognizes excellence in contributing to the teaching mission in strategic management. It will be given to an individual who has made an exemplary contribution to quality and innovation in the teaching of strategic management, either through their own teaching and mentoring activities and/or by empowering other teachers with innovations and high-quality teaching materials. Nominees for this award will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Innovation in the teaching of strategic management (e.g. new pedagogies, new media for learning and knowledge sharing)
- Development and dissemination of teaching materials, such as texts, case studies and digital materials
- Writing and publishing on pedagogy
- Evidence of excellence in teaching at their home institution and other places they have taught (e.g. teaching awards, reference letters from administrators or peers, etc.)

The CK Prahalad Award for Scholarly Impact on Practice, introduced in 2011, was created to honor the legacy of CK Prahalad. The award recognizes excellence in the application of theory and research in practice. These include but are not limited to contributions to knowledge through the extraction of learning from practice; authored scholarly works that have substantively affected the practice of management; and/or the integration of research and practice.
A scholar-practitioner who has used applied learning to influence how theory and research guide practice is honored by this award. Special attention will be given to a scholar-practitioner whose contributions have shaped the understanding of global strategic leadership.
To nominate an individual, please provide the following:

The SMS Service Award is conferred in recognition of significant and enduring service that made an outstanding and distinguished contribution to the Strategic Management Society and its members. The recipient is a person who has rendered lengthy, significant, and effective service to the SMS and its members. Contributions can include volunteer or compensated work for the Society or the field.
Current members of the Board and current leaders of program activities (journals, conferences, research funding) are not eligible. Additionally, Officers of the SMS are not normally eligible until 5 years after completion of their service.

Inaugurated in 2007, the prize is awarded to a relatively young or new scholar, who displays exemplary scholarship that promises to have an impact on future strategic management practice.
This award recognizes a portfolio of work that suggests the candidate will make fundamental contributions to the way we think about knowledge essential to achieving durable organizational success. Contributions that complement existing strategic management theory with ideas from other fields and disciplines will be considered. Eligible to be nominated are members of the SMS. The likely winner of the award will:
- Have completed his/her PhD no more than 10 years and no less than 5 years ago
- Have a record of publication and professional activity that has demonstrated their work to be significant and with impact

Strategic Management Journal Call for Co-Editor Applications Nomination Deadline: April 2, 2026
The Strategic Management Society and Wiley are seeking applications for the Co-Editor position at the Strategic Management Journal (SMJ). Founded in 1980, SMJ is the world’s leading mass impact journal for research in strategic management. SMJ publishes research that is designed to appeal to strategy scholars, with implications within and across papers that are relevant to practicing managers. It is a research journal that publishes original work recommended by a developmental, double-blind review process conducted by peer scholars. Overall, SMJ provides a communication forum for advancing the understanding of strategic management. This includes all topics that are relevant to the performance of firms and non-profit organizations. To learn more about SMJ, including the journal’s vision, themes, and editorial leadership, please visit the SMS website to learn more about the Journal. Please note that SMS strongly recommends nominees be Full Professors to be considered for Co-Editor positions.
Co-Editors of the journal should be able to manage a complex set of tasks. These include but are not limited to: (a) processing all submissions and being action editors on many manuscripts; (b) recruiting, onboarding, and engaging in continuous development of Associate Editors and Editorial Review Board members; (c) creating and communicating policies to authors, Associate Editors, and reviewers; and (d) participating in SMS activities. Each nominee should have the following qualifications:
- Scholarly strength: Recognized worldwide as a strong scholar in the strategic management discipline.
- Editorial experience: Has served or is serving as an Associate Editor or Editor of one of the three Strategic Management Society journals (SMJ, SEJ, or GSJ) or has equivalent experience as a decision editor in other leading journals.
- Open-minded and constructive attitude: History of open-mindedness regarding topics and methodologiesforstrategicmanagementresearchandconstructivenessinhelpingpeople develop different types of research opportunities.
- Strong work ethic: History of a strong work ethic in editorial activities, including both timeliness and ability to handle a steady stream of papers.
- Collaborative leadership experience: Ability to work effectively as a leader in an extended team. As SMJ Co-Editor, the relevant team will include the SMJ Editors (Co-Editors and Associate Editors), SMJ Editorial Review Board members and ad hoc reviewers, Co-Editors of other SMS journals, SMS Media Taskforce, SMS Executive Staff and Board members, Wiley staff, and an evolving set of other global contributors.
- Passion: Clear commitment to helping the journal and the field move forward, both operationally and strategically.
- Visionary and proactive leadership skills: Co-Editors must take an active part in developing the strategic direction of the journal. A Co-Editor must also stay current on the latest guidelines, recommendations, and evidence about peer review and journal management. The journal, as an instrument of a major scholarly organization in the entrepreneurship field, must both reflect and guide the field. Therefore, the Co-Editor must be actively involved with decisions on journal processes, staffing, planning, and promotion and will coordinate with other SMS journals on a regular basis.
Applications will be accepted until April 2, 2026. Nominations should include (in PDF format):
- A statement of interest from the applicant indicating goals for the journal as well as logistical items including name, full address, email address, and telephone number.
- A letter of up to 800 words summarizing the applicant's qualifications relative to the criteria above.
- Up to three (3) third-party letters of support or recommendation. Additional letters and/or multiple signatories to the letters of reference provided will not be considered.
- A current curriculum vitae.
- If available, relevant statistics (number of papers handled, distribution of decisions, evaluations) from previous editorial experiences at journals other than SMJ, SEJ, and GSJ. The SMS office will supply statistics related to its journals to the Search Committee for each candidate.
The SMJ Co-Editor Search Committee of the SMS will review nominations, select, and recommend the appointment of the Co-Editor(s) to the SMS Board and Wiley no later than Fall 2026. Members of the Search Committee may include current and past members of the SMS Board, SMS Fellows, and current and past Editors of the SMS journals, among others. Successful candidates will be provided with an SMS Editorial Responsibilities Agreement for execution prior to assuming the responsibilities of the role.
